Along with traveling as much as possible, part of being committed to raising global citizens is to provide cultural opportunities for my kids while at home. Here in Chicago, organizations like Changing Worlds make that easy for me to do. I was recently introduced to Changing Worlds, an educational arts non-profit organization whose mission is to foster inclusive communities through oral history, writing, and art programs that improve student learning, affirm identity, and enhance cross-cultural understanding. All important topics but it’s the “enhance cross-cultural understanding” part of the mission statement that speaks to me the most.
Changing Worlds provides in-school and after-school programs for students throughout Chicago, as well as workshops and seminars for teachers to help them implement culturally responsive teaching methods. For the community, Changing Worlds organizes events like CrEATefest, a hands-on arts and food truck festival. The family-friendly event will take place on Sunday, August 9, 2015, at the Bridgeport Art Center from 10:00am to 5:00pm. It will be a day filled with live music, face painting, dance lessons, some of Chicago’s top food trucks, adult beverages, and so much more. All proceeds from the festival will benefit Changing Worlds’ arts and cultural awareness programs. CrEATefest details are as follows:
- WHAT: CrEATefest, Arts and Food Truck Festival presented by Changing Worlds
- WHO: Foodies, Artists and Families
- WHEN: Sunday, August 9, 2015 from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
- WHERE: Bridgeport Art Center, 1200 W. 35th Street, Chicago, IL
Tickets can be purchased HERE. Admission includes two-bite sized portions from participating food trucks, a beverage, and the option to purchase additional food directly from the food trucks. I’m happy to say I’ll be at CrEATefest with my family and, if you’ll be in Chicago, I hope to see you there!
