Gymboree Playdate Guide – Chicago: The Children’s Museum in Oak Lawn

It’s been a tough adjustment period for my favorite little lady, Lucia. She has a new(ish) brother and she just started kindergarten. That’s some serious stuff for a five-year-old! To offset these intense recent events, lately I’ve made it a point to spend some fun, one-on-one time with Lucia. We went on a whirlwind Gymboree shopping spree and then spent the Veterans Day holiday (she and I were off from school and work, respectively) at The Children’s Museum in Oak Lawn.

She always has to pose!

First, why Gymboree? Well, I fully identify with the brand’s philosophy that kids shouldn’t grow up too fast, and there’s no better way than through play. As responsible guardians for these little humans, we should do what we can to allow them to have fun in a safe, nurturing environment, while optimizing educational opportunities. Gymboree’s clothing lines stylishly promote such ideas in a fun and fashionable way.

I was planning to do something fun with Lucia on our day off for Veterans Day. My initial thought was to spend time outdoors, enjoying the fresh air and the last of the fall colors. However, Mother Nature had other ideas and instead of late autumn sunshine, she provided us with cold rain and biting winds. That called for an indoor playdate! I decided on The Children’s Museum in Oak Lawn because it is close to home and we hadn’t visited since Lucia was probably a year old. So, she picked out one of her new Gymboree outfits, dressed herself, and off we went for a fun day of play and exploration!

Who says she can’t climb in a skirt??

To promote the belief that kids shouldn’t grow up too fast, Gymboree has launched a Pinterest Playdate Guide. It’s where Gymboree and friends (like me!) are constantly pinning our favorite spots—from the best museums to the best playgrounds—so there’s always a reason for your little one to play. In addition, Gymboree fans and parents are encouraged to share photos and videos of their favorite spots on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, using the hashtag #playdate and tagging Gymboree. It’s a collaborative effort between parents who want to share ideas for their little ones – for every age, city, and season! And if that isn’t fun enough, be sure to follow Gymboree on Facebook and Instagram where they will be holding sweepstakes this month and in December.

Lucia and I were compensated for partnering with Gymboree on this Playdate campaign. (I would have bought this sassy outfit for her anyway.)
