There are so many different things you’ll need to look into and consider before getting married abroad. It can sometimes be less hassle and cheaper than getting married back home, and probably more so if you do your research thoroughly. It isn’t always the better option if you’re not prepared to put the work in. Take a look below at the 6 things you should do before getting married abroad.
Look Into The Legalities Of Getting Married Abroad
Start by looking into the legalities of getting wed abroad. What will you need to do beforehand, and who will you need to meet with? You may need to be in the country a set amount of time before you’re legally allowed to get married. Make sure you look closely into this so that nothing is missed and you can get married without a hitch.
Carefully Consider How Much You’d Like To Spend
Just like with any wedding, you need to know your budget. However, there are a few extra considerations you might want to make with a wedding abroad. For example, will you pay for any of your guests’ travel and accommodations to ensure their attendance? Is there another way you’ll help people who want to be there for your wedding? Will you buy dresses and flowers and things over there or will you transport them? There’s a lot to think about and a lot of extra costs if you’re not buying everything at your chosen wedding destination.
Consider The Entertainment You Will Have And Where To Find It
Will you find entertainment in your chosen country? You could choose a traditional band, but if you’re set on having one of your favorite wedding bands from back home you will need to enquire how much they’d charge for something like this. Some of them may not travel for your wedding. It’s a good idea to stay flexible and open to different options.
Visit The Venue
Don’t just go by pictures. If at all possible, visit the venue to make sure it’s just the right size and that everything looks good to you. Waiting until a day or two before your wedding to visit the venue could be disastrous.
Know If Your Marriage Will Be Legal In Your Home Country
You also need to do your research on whether your marriage will be legal in your home country. If it’s not, you may need to arrange a quiet registry office wedding when you return, or something similar so that your marriage is solidified.
Hire A Wedding Planner
Hiring a wedding planner will take a lot of the stress of planning a wedding abroad away from you – especially since wedding planners are professionals and they already have contacts. This will be an extra expense but it will take a huge load off your mind, making things 10 times easier!
