Hands-free family travel with Clever Travel Companion

Clever Travel CompanionTravel is a wonderful thing. I think we all can agree on that. It does pose its challenges, though. Travel with kids is the same way. The challenges aren’t any bigger or smaller; they’re just different. Now with two little travelers of my own, I’m always on the lookout for products and gear that can make travel with kids go a bit more smoothly. One of the challenges of traveling with kids is how to manage all of their STUFF: Extra changes of clothes; diapers; baby wipes; toys, books, and games to keep them occupied while in transit… The list goes on. So how do Mom and Dad schlep all of that stuff, in addition to luggage and possibly a car seat and/or a stroller? Oftentimes I wish I were an octopus, just for the extra arms to carry everything! But a few months ago I was introduced to a concept that helps parents be a little more hands-free, and can also free up a bit more space in our bags. It’s called Clever Travel Companion, a 100% pickpocket-proof line of clothing. It wasn’t designed specifically with traveling families in mind, but we parents certainly can use the safety features to our advantage.

Clever Travel Companion sent me the Fitted V-Neck T-Shirt With 2 Pockets to try out. It’s a black, V-neck T-shirt with one zippered, secret pocket under each arm. I unwrapped the cute, travel-themed packaging, made to look like a piece of airmail, and would have thought it was a regular black V-neck T-shirt; the pockets are that unnoticeable. Since we don’t have any major trips planned until summer, I first tested out the T-shirt at the Chicago Travel & Adventure Show. All I really needed to carry on my person was my ID, credit card, car key, and business cards, all of which fit quite nicely into the shirt’s secret pockets. I didn’t have to lug a purse around and it allowed me to more easily carry all the goodies I picked up while wandering about the show. The shirt also came in handy recently when The Working Dad and I spent some time on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail. Again, the main objective was to be as hands-free as possible (to drink all the bourbon, of course), and my flask fit perfectly in one of the pockets.

In addition to hands-free travel and stealthy bourbon consumption, Clever Travel Companion items also:

  • Protect the wearer against losing or misplacing valuables.
  • Are pickpocket/theft-proof.
  • Make belongings readily accessible at all times due to conveniently placed hidden pockets.
  • Keep valuables completely invisible from thieves, unlike other traditional tourist targets like fanny packs (sorry, Traveling Ted).
  • With large pockets, fit passports, credit cards, cash, boarding passes and even cell phones and keys.
  • Provide a comfortable fit, even when pockets are full.
  • Feature stylish designs that can be worn alone or as under-layers, making them suitable for all climates.
  • Recently introduced a Kid’s Crew Neck T-Shirt With Secret Pocket!

Secret pockets for your passport – or your flask

I’m a big fan of V-neck T-shirts in general, so the Fitted V-Neck T-Shirt With 2 Pockets was a natural choice for me. When ordering your own Clever Travel Companion, just keep in mind that these items were meant to be layered; therefore, the fit is rather snug. If you’d prefer to wear the garment as an over-layer, I suggest ordering one size up, possibly two. I’m planning to order at least one tank top before our summer trip to Europe, and maybe even a garment or two for the kids. Speaking of ordering your own Clever Travel Companion…. use discount code TWMCOMPANION at checkout to receive 10% off your purchase!

Best wishes for safe and happy travels!

I was envisioning some kind of REI, Swiss Army knife version of a t-shirt. This is actually cute. Any any shirt that can carry a flask is ok by me. Do they have one that will hold a bottle of Champagne?

This is cute, and I love v-neck shirts. I like how travel clothes are getting a bit cuter than they used to be. I spent last week at the Travel Goods Show, and I think companies are striving to be a bit more fashionable – thank goodness! This is a great idea – especially for travel with kids!

They always say to not put all your eggs in one basket. I never put all my eggs in my fanny pack. I do not think this device eliminates the fanny pack, it just augments it. Put your camera, sunglasses, suntan oil and things you need to get out and use in the fanny and then put your money and passport in hidden away pockets. If your fanny pack gets stolen then you have all critical documents somewhere else. This is a great traveler’s tool.

I love this idea for holding my passport or ID. I’m not a fan of those travel slim packs that can go under clothes, so this seems like a great option!
