Feeling at home at Auburn Place Hotel & Suites in Cape Girardeau

After our doughnut stop at Riverfront Market and a quick walk through part of Cape’s historic downtown, we made our way to our home for the next few days, Auburn Place Hotel & Suites. Located just off I-55, it is convenient and easy to find – and just a short car ride to downtown and the riverfront. We were given a poolside suite on the first floor so Little Miss Sunshine (that would be Lucia) could have easy access to the indoor swimming pool. Lucia was excited about our close proximity to the pool but what delighted her most was that she would have her “own bed for once”, this time in the form of a twin size pull-out chair. Our suite also had a king size bed and a full size pull-out couch. Additionally, hotel staff provided a pack-and-play for Anthony to sleep in and we didn’t even request it. A gesture most appreciated.

Auburn Place offers a number of amenities that appeal to families. First, the indoor pool. The kids can swim all year round and that’s always a bonus, especially on those days when the weather isn’t cooperating. On the second level of the hotel overlooking the pool area is a game room. There are pool tables, a ping pong table, and a foosball table; it’s a fun little hangout for the older kids. Auburn Place also offers daily complimentary breakfast, which is always a deal-sealer when I’m making plans to travel with my kids. It makes starting the day so much easier. Business travelers, travel bloggers, and tech geeks alike will appreciate the power strips, complete with USB plugs, in the rooms to charge all the gadgets. Even better? Free wifi! It’s available in the guest rooms and the common areas so when work (blogging) needs to be done and you’re tired of sitting in your room, you can relocate to one of the comfortable and spacious common areas of the hotel. One such area is the “dining room” where breakfast is served each morning. There is a long, high table that has electric outlets and USB plugs built into it. One word: awesome.

If I haven’t sold you yet, I’ll tell you that every hotel employee we dealt with was overly helpful and extremely gracious. And, the best part of all: complimentary cookies and milk in the lobby each evening, loved by kids of all ages (including this one).

My family and I were guests of Auburn Place Hotel & Suites and Cape Girardeau CVB. Even if we hadn’t been, I’d still have the same thoughts and opinions about our stay at Auburn Place.

I’m quickly learning as we travel more with our almost 7-year-old son that a pool is very important. It’s good for him to have even 30 minutes of pool time on trips that are full of museums and other attractions. This indoor pool looks like it would hit the spot.

We took lots of weekend trips when I was younger (my brother was on a travel hockey team) and we always stayed at hotels with an indoor pool so I learned the value early on. And the kids love it. Can’t go wrong.

I too never got why pools mattered so much at Midwest hotels until I had kids. It certainly is a must-have, not only because its fun, but its also a great way to tire kiddos out before bed.

We stayed at the Drury Suites (same hotel Ben Affleck is at now for the movie they are filming in Cape) – it was surprisingly nice and recently remodeled – also had a great stay!

Glad to hear that, Adam! I missed Ben Affleck by just a few weeks 😉
