The theme for this week’s #JAchat is “street photography”. I’m going to let you in on a little secret: the first question is, “What are the best cities for street photography?” I didn’t have to think on this very long to come up with my answer; it is Istanbul. At any given time of day or night, there are hordes of people moving along the streets. If you can manage to stop and observe the masses of humanity, it appears that the streets themselves are actually moving. Such bustling activity, combined with the history, architecture, and culture of Istanbul, instilled in me the desire to attempt to capture it all in photographs. I didn’t always succeed, but just looking at my photos from my time in Istanbul brings me right back to those crowded streets. And in the middle of the madness, I did manage to capture some scenes on a few of the quieter streets. Come, walk with me…

Nice photos. I haven’t been to Istanbul but have it high on my wish list. I like the contrast of themes in the photo with Starbucks.
Yes, Jenna – that’s exactly what I thought when I snapped that photo with the Starbucks. Plus, Istanbul is a city of contrasts.
Nice shots, Francesca! Between the people, architecture, and fruit stands, I see why you like photographing it.
Thanks for another #JAchat-related post!
Again with Istanbul. Between you and Raul, I’m being forced to go. Beautiful photos, Francesca.
The top and bottom are my favorites. I think we are both a fan of the cobbles 🙂
I have very fond memories of Istanbul – and haven’t back for at least 6 years. Hoping to make it in 2014
These photos are gorgeous! I honestly need to get myself here as soon as possible! That last one…sigh!
I think wandering the streets of Istanbul is one of my fave of all streets! So vibrant and full of life.
A great city for street photography. I couldn’t get enough when I was there. I think some of the best sites are just people watching. thanks for sharing.
