“I wish we could take a trip like that.”
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard that, or something similar, from other parents. They often tell me they wish they could travel more with their families. When asked why they don’t, the common response is that traveling with children is too stressful. That isn’t inaccurate; travel can be inherently stressful for everyone. The good news is there are people and organizations that exist to make travel for families as enjoyable and stress-free as possible. One such entity is The Voyageurs Collection, a new partnership between Voyageurs du Monde and Original Travel.
Imagine your family agreeing on a place to travel to and then handing over the reins to someone else to handle the rest of the details. That is exactly what The Voyageurs Collection is about. All of the trips offered are 100% tailor-made based on the family’s unique travel requirements and preferences. A team of travel specialists, along with a network of local concierges, works to curate the perfect travel itinerary. How is that for stress-free?
To help celebrate the launch of The Voyageurs Collection, I’ve identified what I think is the perfect U.S. itinerary for my family and me. We are a music-loving bunch and I’d like to think that’s all because of me. Music is one of my main passions, especially roots music. In fact, I’m equally passionate about music as I am travel so, in 2018, I launched a second travel blog. It is called Roots Music Rambler; its focus is on discovering the roots of music through travel. When it comes to American roots music, the ideal place to begin the journey of discovery is where it all started, in the Deep South. The Voyageurs Collection designed a perfect travel itinerary to match my passion. It’s a 15-day adventure beginning in Chicago, culminating in New Orleans, called A Musical Journey Through the Deep South.
This adventure comes with a built-in soundtrack! It starts with the blues in Chicago and visits to iconic music clubs. Then on to Nashville, the Country Music Capital of the World. Next, it’s on to Memphis with an included visit to Sun Studio, the Birthplace of Rock n Roll. It’s back to the blues with a stop in Clarksdale, known as “the golden buckle of the cotton belt.” The epic journey ends on a high note in New Orleans with its legendary jazz clubs and deeply-rooted musical heritage. If that itinerary isn’t perfect enough, travelers have myriad a-la-carte options to augment their experience.
When I came across this trip idea from The Voyageurs Collection, I thought, “Yes! That is my dream trip!” The route is perfect and the stops extremely significant. The most exciting part, though, is that the trip is 100% tailor-made to meet the family’s needs. As a parent, it is comforting to know that The Voyageurs Collection, along with several other services, also provides a 24-hour helpline. So, if anything should go wrong during the trip, help is only one phone call away. Also worth mentioning are the Fun Packs for children ages 3-10. Called Sharky & George Packs, they are stuffed with exciting games and activities for the younger ones.
