We spent the first half of our Halkidiki trip at Philoxenia Bungalows in Psakoudia. It was such a fantastic time and it left us with the feeling that the second half of the trip would be pretty awesome, too. What we didn’t know was just how fantastic that second half would be, and our stay at Nefeli Villas & Suites had a lot to do with it.
Nefeli Villas & Suites is located on Kassandra, the first “leg” (peninsula) of Halkidiki, in the town of Nea Skioni. The property sits just off the main road so it is easy to find, and right across that road is the Aegean Sea. Kassandra is known as the leg of Halkidiki where the partygoers flock; however, the atmosphere at Nefeli is quite the opposite.
As you can guess by the name, Nefeli features all suites and villas. Options range from a Deluxe Garden Bungalow for 2-3 people to the King Villa which has four bedrooms, two studios, and its own private pool! With such a wide array of accommodations, Nefeli is an excellent choice for everyone from couples to families to large groups (who can share that luxurious King Villa).
During our time at Nefeli Villas & Suites, we stayed in a 2-bedroom ground-floor bungalow. It was more than enough space for just my husband and me! The two twin beds in the second bedroom almost made me wish our kids were with us (almost). Walk across the bungalow’s private, furnished patio and through the main entryway which leads into the cozy living room. It is furnished with an expansive sectional couch, flat-screen television, and entertainment center. Beyond there is a full kitchen with modern, seemingly new appliances, and a dining table to seat 6. The master bedroom has a full-size bed and sliding doors which lead out onto another patio at the rear of the building (the patio can also be accessed via the second bedroom). The bathroom is gloriously spacious (bigger than our bathroom at home!) with a full tub, shower, and even a washing machine.
While the larger villas have their own private swimming pools, there is one communal pool for the rest of Nefeli’s guests. Honestly, we didn’t spend any time at the pool and didn’t see too many other guests using it. They probably felt the same way my husband and I did: why do you need a pool when you have a private beach on the Aegean Sea right across the street?! The good news is, if you’d like to use the pool, you might be one of the very few people there or even have it all to yourself.
If you’ll remember, I’m not much of a beach person. However, I gladly made an exception for the beach at Nefeli! It is probably the most relaxing beach experience I have ever had. Right on the beach are dozens of beach chairs and tables to choose from, all partially shaded by thatched umbrellas. There are also hammocks, bean-bag type chairs, and – my favorite – beach beds! Just behind all of these options, in an elevated grassy area, are more lounge chairs, tables, umbrellas, and bean-bag chairs. During the high season, beachside food and beverage service is offered for guests. Those tables I mentioned? There are little buzzers on them to call for a server. We visited in the low season when the beachside service is suspended so we had to walk up a few stairs to the bar to order our own cocktails. How horrible, right?
Another thing worth mentioning is that families with young children are more than welcome at Nefeli. There is even a dedicated “Children in Nefeli” section on the resort’s website. We visited without our children but I would not think twice about staying there with them on a future visit. The villas and bungalows are extremely family-friendly (full kitchen, twin beds, washing machine). Then there are the extras that demonstrate just how much Nefeli welcomes children. In addition to the beach, there is a playground in the middle of the resort, dedicated space at the pool just for children, and babysitting services.
Aelia Bar Restaurant & Beach Lounge
Aelia is the beachside restaurant and bar I mentioned above. We enjoyed breakfast and dinner at Aelia every day of our visit. It wasn’t just out of convenience; the food and service were exceptional! Breakfast is buffet-style with a variety of options, from Greek yogurt and granola to bacon and eggs. And the bread… the glorious bread! Dinner, however, takes Nefeli dining to a completely different level. Some of the best meals we had in Halkidiki were at Aelia. Rather than order from the menu, we chose to have the chef prepare multi-course meals for us each evening. We really had no idea what we would be served. When I say that each night our dinner surpassed the meal the night before, you have to believe me. We ate so much and so well, and everything was incredibly fresh and exquisitely presented.
I must mention our server, Kostas. He was outstanding! I think it was by accident, but he ended up being our server each night. He spent several minutes chatting with us not only about the food he served us but also about his background and living and working in Halkidiki. Just a genuinely kind young man. And then he would bring us all this amazing food so of course we loved him!
As if dining at Aelia wasn’t perfect enough, we were also treated to a breathtaking Aegean sunset each night.
If you go…
- Wifi is available throughout the resort.
- Meals at Aelia are not included in your stay.
- Should you need any necessities or even beachwear, there is an on-site mini-market.
